How to use this course

Ideas first, then drills.

An opening isn't a list of moves to memorize — it's a plan. Each opening here starts with its big idea: what each side is trying to do and which squares matter.

Openings are grouped by White's first move: 1.e4 (King's Pawn), 1.d4 (Queen's Pawn), and flank openings like 1.c4. Learn the plan first, and the moves will make sense.

  • Read the idea, step through the main line, then drill it move by move.
  • Pair this with the Openings Trainer to build a repertoire you'll remember.
